Save Your Home - Avoid Scams (City of Chicago, North Side)
Lakeside CDC will host a foreclosure prevention seminar for homeowners and renters concerned about losing their homes due to foreclosure.
At this FREE event, learn about the foreclosure process in Illinois, get information on strategies for preventing foreclosure, and meet with a housing counselor to review your situation and get scheduled for 1x1 counseling. We will also talk about mortgage modification scams and how to protect yourself from predatory service providers.
Homeowners seeking counseling help should plan to bring the following documents:
Most recent mortgage statements for both first and second mortgage, if applicable
Two most recent pay stubs
Two most recent bank statements
Homeowners' insurance bill or Declaration Page
Proof/ Documentation of income from any other sources such as alimony, child support (judgment letter), or Social Security income (award letter)
Account balances and monthly payments on all other debts including: homeowner association/ condo fees, credit cards, student or car loans, child support and alimony
Unemployment award letter, if applicable
Most recent profit-loss statement, if you are self-employed
If you have rental income, you must also bring:
- Signed lease agreement(s); and
- Rent receipt(s) or signed letter(s) from occupants(s) confirming rent amount
Real estate tax bill
Most recent tax return (with all schedules and W-2's)
Most recent utility bills
Any documents received from, or filed in, the Circuit Court of Cook County (such as Foreclosure Summons and Complaint)
