Movie screening and panel discussion: “Plunder: The Crime of Our Time” with director Danny Schechter (Chicago, Downtown)

Woodstock Institute is hosting a screening of “Plunder: The Crime of Our Time,” followed by a panel discussion with top financial crisis experts, including “Plunder” director and journalist Danny Schechter and National Community Reinvestment Coalition president and CEO John Taylor.

“Plunder: The Crime of Our Time” argues that the financial crisis was built on a foundation of criminal activity in the housing market, not just poor underwriting or unsustainable mortgage products. It argues that the wrongdoing committed by a few individuals distracts from the real story, implicating the best-known institutions that financed and profited from fraudulent subprime lending. This connection is now being investigated by the FBI as part of a probe into what it calls a "fraud epidemic." “Plunder” calls for a full investigation and structural reforms of financial institutions to ensure accountability by the white-collar perpetrators who profited from the misery of their victims.
